Makes about 2 cups

This simple staple is a great enhancement for many of your baked goods.  Make some up and keep it in the refrigerator ready for your baking needs.

1 ½ cups water

1 cup sugar

¼ stick of butter or margarine

1 tablespoon vanilla

Put all ingredients into a small sauce pan and bring to a boil.  Immediately reduce the heat to a simmer and continue to cook for about 15 minutes.  Store in a the refrigerator in a jar with a tight.  It must be warm when used.  You may heat it in the microwave.  If it crystallizes, don’t worry.  It will reconstitute itself when it's heated.
