There are perhaps as many recipes for Sangria as there are people who make it, however, the basic components are red wine, fruit, usually citrus, sweetener, something to give it a bit of a boost and something to give it a bit of sparkle.  The end result, something cooling and refreshing.  The following recipe is as good as any.

1 bottle full bodied red wine (Burgundy type) *

Juice of one large orange

Juice of one large lemon

1 orange, cut into thin slices

1 lemon, cut into thin slices

1 peach, peeled and diced

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup rum or brandy (optional)

2 cups sparkling water

Mix the first eight ingredients together well before adding the sparkling water and stirring gently.  Serve in a glass pitcher filled with ice.

*  1 bottle = 750 milliliters or  4/5 of a gallon or 25.6 ounces or about 3 ¼ cups
