Americans have been coffee drinkers ever since the colonial rebellion against the Townshend Duties imposed by Parliament in 1767, and in that time we have discovered that coffee can be just as good cold as it is hot, as this delectable recipe will prove.

For each serving, place about two cups of ice in the jar of your blender.  Add a cup of strong, cold black coffee and about a quarter cup of cream, half and half or milk.  Add sweetener to taste and pulse the blender until you have achieved a smooth slushy.  Serve in a tall glass with a straw and an ice tea spoon.

For an added touch of decadence, top with a dollop of whipped cream and a light sprinkling of cinnamon, nutmeg or slivered chocolate.
