If there is anyone who doesn’t like pizza, I haven’t met them yet. Here is a delectable red sauce pizza based on a Sicilian classic, and it’s so easy. You start with ready to use products and add a few homemade touches.
1, 9 or 10-inch frozen pizza shell
1 or 2 tablespoons olive oil
½ a yellow onion, diced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
About 2 cups of readymade canned or jarred Spaghetti or Marinara sauce or Basic Red Sauce
1, 1 ½-ounce jar of marinated artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
2 to 3 tablespoons sliced black olives, well drained
8 to 10 cloves of Roasted Garlic, chopped
About 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basal
About ½ cup each, grated Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese
About ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for thawing the pizza dough. Preheat oven to 500°. Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet and gently sauté the onion and mushrooms until hot through and translucent but not yet beginning to brown. Place the pizza dough on a baking sheet or Pizza Screen and spread generously with the sauce. Sprinkle the sautéed onions and mushrooms evenly over the top. Continue scattering the remaining ingredients, except cheese over the pizza. Gently toss the Mozzarella and Cheddar together and scatter evenly over and top with the Parmesan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the bottom of the crust is brown. When removed from the oven, allow to sit for a few minutes before slicing. |
