Makes a bunch
Lith means stone or rock and mega of course meant large, like the giant stones in Stonehenge. Since drop cookies use to be called “rocks,” I decided an appropriate name for these over the top drop cookies would be “Megaliths.”
3 cups all-purpouse flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 tablespoon powdered cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon powdered cloves
1 cup each, rolled oats, raisins, chopped walnuts and semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 ½ cups sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 cup ( 2 sticks) softened but not melted butter
3 eggs
Bakers' syrup
Preheat oven to 350°. Sift the dry ingredients together and toss with the nuts, raisins, etc. Set aside. In a large bowl cream the sugar, molasses and butter together. Add the eggs and blend well. Begin adding the fruit and nut mixture and stir until blended. It may be necessary to add a few drops of milk.
| The easiest way to form the cookies is with a portion scoop. Place scoops of dough about the size of a golf ball, an inch apart on baking sheets that have been lined with bakers’ parchment. Place in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, paint generously with warm bakers syrup. Allow to cool for a few minutes before transferring to plates. |
