Serves 4 normal people or 1 glutton
1 pound of ground beef – (15 to 20% fat)
1 yellow onion, diced
3 or 4 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon mixed dry herbs – (Italian seasoning)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1, 8-inch round loaf of Sourdough French bread
Mayonnaise
Mustard of choice
Salt and fresh, coarse ground black pepper to taste
Tomato slices
Sweet purple onion slices
Dill pickle slices
Crisp lettuce
Salt and fresh, coarse ground black pepper to taste
Mix the first five ingredients together well and form into a patty that is about 1 inch thick. Grill, broil or fry to desired degree of doneness. While the meat is cooking, split the loaf of bread in half and remove some of the soft crumb from the inside. Spread one side with mayonnaise and the other side with mustard. Place the cooked meat patty on the bottom half and cover with the top half of the loaf. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place a dinner plate on top of the bread and place a weight on it. Leave in a warm place for about five minutes. Remove the weight and the top of the loaf and cover the meat with a layer of tomato slices, then onion and pickle slices and finally top with fresh, crisp lettuce leaves. Cut into four wedges and serve. Now, just try and get your face around this! |
