Trifle is a dessert that is so easy to make.  That’s how it got its name; it was just a trifling little thing to make.  And the really good part, you can make it as easy or as complex as you wish.  Feel like making a Pound Cake?  Fine.  If not, use store bought.  Feel like making Homemade Pudding?  Fine.  If not, use instant.

You will need:

Pound Cake

Cream Sherry, Brandy or Rum

Vanilla pudding

Jam or preserves of choice

Vanilla pudding

Whipped Cream

Fresh or frozen fruit of the same type as the jam or preserves

Attractive Stem Glasses

Cut two or three rounds of pound cake that are just a bit smaller around than the circumference of the glasses you have chosen.  Sprinkle them with whatever booze you wish to use and set aside while you make the pudding – (from scratch or instant).  While the pudding is cooling, whip the cream.

To assemble, put a bit of the pudding in the very bottom of the glass and top with  a small dollop of jam or preserves.  Drop in a piece of cake.  Put a spoon of pudding on top of the cake, then another bit of jam, then another slice of cake and another spoon of pudding, another drop of jam and so on until the glass is full.  End with pudding and jam.  Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream and top with a piece of fruit.

Easy, sinful and delectable.
